GOP Ahead In Upcoming Primary Elections

According to "The New York Times Week in Review," the GOP is ahead in several upcoming midterm Primary elections:

President Barack Obama's former U.S. Senate seat might soon be filled by Rep. Mark Kirk, a moderate Republican from Chicago, in the February 2 primary. Mark Kirk is being challenged by an even more conservative candidate, Patrick Hughes (a Tea Party antitax group is backing Mr. Hughes). 1

"Mr. Kirk, who is favored to win the Feb. 2 primary, is one of many well-known Republican candidates this year who are facing or are expected to face more conservative challengers whose supporters are fueled by angry discontent with the Obama administration and more moderate elements of their own party." 1

Californian Senator Barbara Boxer, democrat, could possibly find her seat filled by conservative State Assemblyman Chuck DeVore in November. 1

"Already, the retirement plans of three prominent Democrats, Senators Christopher J. Dodd of Connecticut and Byron L. Dorgan of North Dakota, and Gov. Bill Ritter Jr. of Colorado, have put an early bounce in the step of Republicans." 1

Is the tide turning? Is there a trend back to conservative politics in America? Brian Walsh, a spokesman for the National Republican Senatorial Committee, had this to say: “But at the end of the day in poll after poll it's the Republican candidates who are ahead of Democrat candidates in all of these states.” 1

Napolitano Offers Zero Homeland Security For 18 Republican Leaders

On January 5 The Conservative Victory Committee wrote a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano requesting Janet Napolitano's voluntary resignation.

The last sentence in this letter, signed by Congressman Michael C. Burgess (R-Texas)and 17 other conservative leaders, states: "Please, Madame Secretary, do the right thing - for our nation, and its people."

Here is an excerpt from the letter:
"We are concerned that your performance as Secretary has not been consistent with the high standards required of your job. You have made decisions that are at best highly questionable; at worst erroneous - sometimes dangerously so. And you have on several occasions said things that have been reckless, and demonstrate a lack of understanding of the perilous realities which threaten us as a nation.
We face threats of enormous proportions on several fronts, most notably from terrorists who wish to - and have demonstrated that they have the ability to - commit acts of violence in order to kill Americans and disrupt our way of life. Your past performance and lack of judgment do not give us confidence that you are able to protect the American people against these threats."
If you recall, CONSERVATIVE WORDSMITH.COM published a post on December 28, 2009, entitled "No Tears For 2009, Thanks to Economic Woes, Health Care, Homeland Security, And A Politically Correct Liberal White House" about Secretary ofHomeland Security Janet Napolitano refusing to use the word "terrorism."

Napolitano said that she preferred to use the word (which is not a real word) "man-caused" disasters. In my post I wrote (quoting myself):
"It is scary that Janet Napolitano, the person Americans are supposed to trust regarding their security from terrorists, particularly Islamic Jihadist terrorists, finds the word "terrorism" to be politically incorrect."
It is interesting to note that the words and sentiments of 18 respected conservative leaders bear an uncanny  resemblance to my own words. Here is what the letter they wrote to Napolitano had to say about this matter:
"And in March, you made the bizarre announcement that terrorist acts would no longer be called what they are - terrorist acts. They would instead be called 'man-caused disasters.' This sort of semantic amorphousness typifies your misunderstanding of the gravity of the position you hold and the import of that with which you are charged -- the safeguarding of the homeland and the American people."

Rush Limbaugh Says He Is Proof That American Health Care System Works Just Fine

According to an article in today's New York Daily News, Rush Limbaugh said that His own experience proves the American health care system works just fine and needs no fixing.

In typical liberal fashion, "Defenders of the Obama plan replied that the health care system has always worked just fine for multimillionaires."

My interpretation of Rush Limbaugh's statement about the American health care system is that Rush was referring to the quality of health care he received. Being a millionaire is not the point.

And let's not forget that many of Obama liberal representatives have excellent health care coverage, the kind that caters to multimillionaires.

Rush Limbaugh Rushes Back To New York's WABC 770 AM Radio This Wednesday

RushPopular Conservative Talk Show host Rush Limbaugh will return to the air waves on Wednesday, January 6, according to an article published today by the New York Daily News.

Limbaugh will be making "guest visits" to his show today and tomorrow, speaking with fill-in host Mark Steyn, then he will be back in the host's chair Wednesday. His show is heard in New York on WABC (770 AM), from noon to 3 p.m.
So sorry to disappoint all of you not-so-well liberal wishers, but Rush Limbaugh is alive and well, and, as I reported a few days ago, did not have a heart attack.

According to Fox News.com, Conservative Talk Show Host Rush Limbaugh, in referring to his recent chest pains, said "'The pain was real, and they don't know what caused it.'" "Doctors said he did not have a heart attack or heart disease."

Rush Limbaugh held a press conference at The Queens Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, at 1 PM PST on Friday, January 1, in which He stated that he was being released from the hospital.

Rush Limbaugh Hospitalized While Liberals Display Hateful Remarks

Conservative Talk Show Host Rush Limbaugh was rushed to Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii yesterday, after complaining of chest pains.

Limbaugh's guest host Walter Williams told listeners that the talk radio king "continues to rest very comfortably" at a Honolulu hospital, where doctors planned a complete medical exam.
"While those pains can be an indicator of a cardiac event, the cause of his discomfort cannot be confirmed at this time," Williams said. "But he's going to take a lot of tests."

Williams said Limbaugh is in "good, stable condition" and he assured loyal listeners that "he's in very good hands."

"He's aware and thankful for all the prayers and concerns and best wishes that have poured in to him," Williams said. 1

No Tears For 2009, Thanks To Economic Woes, Health Care, Homeland Security, And A Politically Correct Liberal White House

Why are most Americans glad that 2009 is ending? Is it because of the severe economic crisis? Is the troubled economy the only reason? Is it the health care situation? Is it worries about Social Security and Medicare? How about the Ft. Hood Massacre?

Sarah Palin on Ft. Hood:

I think that there were massive warning flags that were missed all over the place," she said. "I think that it was quite unfortunate that, to me, it was a fear of being politically incorrect to not, I am going to use the word, profile this guy.

The following rather shocking conversation took place between a journalist at Der Spiegel (a German magazine) and Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, (Napolitano was appointed by our very liberal President Barack Obama):

SPIEGEL: Madame Secretary, in your first testimony to the US Congress as Homeland Security Secretary you never mentioned the word "terrorism." Does Islamist terrorism suddenly no longer pose a threat to your country?
NAPOLITANO: Of course it does. I presume there is always a threat from terrorism. In my speech, although I did not use the word "terrorism," I referred to "man-caused" disasters. That is perhaps only a nuance, but it demonstrates that we want to move away from the politics of fear toward a policy of being prepared for all risks that can occur.
There is no such word as "man-caused." I looked up the word at Dictionary.com, and this questions was posed: "Did you mean uncaused?" It is scary that Janet Napolitano, the person Americans are supposed to trust regarding their security from terrorists, particularly Islamic Jihadist terrorists, finds the word "terrorism" to be politically incorrect.

Just for fun, here is the definition of the word "terrorism," a real word Dictionary.com had no trouble in defining (in fact, there are three definitions of the word "terrorism" on Dictionary.com):

ter⋅ror⋅ism

–noun
1. the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, esp. for political purposes.

2. the state of fear and submission produced by terrorism or terrorization.

3. a terroristic method of governing or of resisting a government.

Origin:
1785–95; terror + -ism

Republicans Mitt Romney Or Sarah Palin: Will Either One Run Against President Obama In 2012?

According to a new poll by Utah TV station Fox 13 and Utahpolicy.com, 53% of the Republicans  participating in this poll believe that Mitt Romney will be the top GOP presidential candidate in 2012, while 4% are rooting for Sarah Palin. Mitt Romney, a top contender in the 2008 presidential election, has also written a book, published by St. Martin's Press, and scheduled for publication on March 3 of 2010. 1

A national tour is also on Mitt's 2010 schedule. Tickets are now on sale for Mitt Romney's March 13, 2010 signing event at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City, Utah. If you are interesting in joining the 10,000 or Romneyites expected to attend this event, click http://www.mittromneyutah.com.%201/1

1 Taking page from Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney readies book blitz, written by Dave Wedge. The above information is a CONSERVATIVE WORDSMITH.COM summary.

Author's Note: Utah is predominantly inhabited by Latter-Day Saints (commonly known as Mormons). Since Mitt Romney is also a Latter-Day Saint, this Utah-based poll should be taken with a rather heavy grain of salt.

I was an outspoken supporter of Mitt Romney in the 2008 presidential election (see my original Townhall.com Conservative Wordsmith blog to read my many popular published Mitt Romney posts).

Even so, I like Sarah Palin, and I believe that she has a good fighting chance to be the 2012 Republican presidential nominee. Sarah Palin could be the first woman in history to become U.S. President, and that would also mean the first Republican woman.

Sarah Palin: "She's Not Retreating; She's Reloading."

I don't understand how any conservative could not like Sarah Palin. Now if you are calling yourself a conservative, but you secretly despise Sarah Palin and harbor fond thoughts about President Barack Obama, then that is a different situation.

In any case, Sarah Palin's new book, "Going Rogue: An American Life" is already a best-seller even though it is not scheduled to appear in your local bookstore until tomorrow, November 17. In the meantime, Sarah Palin appears on the Oprah Winfrey show today.

"One year later, Palin has seen more than her fair share of controversies but has emerged as one of the hottest Republican stars and is among the early leaders for the 2012 presidential nomination."

"We came back [from the campaign] to a new normal in Alaska. Everything had so changed in my administration," Palin continued. "There were so many opposition researchers up there in Alaska that were sent, probably, by the Obama camp. ... It was a point where my state of Alaska was being hampered by my presence there."

"Ultimately though, Palin made clear the move wasn't so much an end as it was a beginning."

"My dad's quote sums it up better than I sum it up," she said. 'She's not retreating; she's reloading.'"

Sarah Palin Is A Superstar Politician On Twitter And Facebook

If you think Sarah Palin is out of the political picture, think again. According to Matthew Continetti, associate editor of the Weekly Standard and the author of "The Persecution of Sarah Palin,"
"She has more followers on Facebook than any politician except President Obama. When I checked on Friday, she had close to 15,000 people following her on Twitter."

Are Americans Losing Confidence In Obama? New Rasmussen and Zogby Polls Indicate "Yes"

Is America's confidence in Obama slipping? According to recent polls, the answer is definitely "yes."

"The Rasmussen poll has his approval dropping to 45 percent, after several weeks at 49 percent. The Zogby poll has it even lower -- at 42 percent.

* Only 75 percent of Democrats, who formerly have supported Obama strongly, now approve of his performance in office. Zogby reports that this represents a slide of more than 10 points over the summer.
* Even among blacks, only 74 percent approve of the job he's doing (also a drop of more than 10 points).
* Hispanics, who voted for him by a margin of more than 40 points, now break even (36-36) when rating his performance."

Author's Comment: Will liberal Democrats pave the way for a Republican president in 2012? Liberals just might be fickle enough to make that happen. Liberals voted for Obama. Now they are going to have to live with the consequences. When it suddenly hits them even harder, who knows? Maybe some liberals will even vote Republican the next time.

Sarah Palin and USA TODAY/Gallup Poll: Sarah Palin For President In 2012? Majority of Republicans Say Yes!

Sarah Palin is a Republican fave for President in 2012, according to a Huffington Post article published today, July 9.

"A new nationwide USA TODAY/Gallup Poll has found that two-thirds of Republicans want Palin to be "a major national political figure" in the future. In fact a whopping 71% of Republicans say they'd likely vote for her if she ran for president in 2012. And this poll was done after her resignation!

In fact, announcing her resignation on the eve of Independence Day wasn't done so the deed could slide under the radar of a long holiday weekend.

No way. She did it BECAUSE it WAS Independence Day and she wasn't really announcing a resignation. No, she was actually proclaiming "my independence...no more politics as usual." 1

Mayor Villaraigosa Vows To Put Prop. 8 Back on California Ballot

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, in speaking about California's controversial Gay Marriage Proposition 8, vowed on Sunday, June 14, ""to put this issue back on the ballot." 1

If Mayor Villaraigosa succeeds, this would be the third time that Californians have been coerced into voting for Gay Marriage, when they have already made it clear that they are not in favor of two men, or two women, being called husband and wife.

By the way, Mayor Villaraigosa is a Roman Catholic, who, if you recall, was recently involved in a personal public scandal (cheating on his wife). It would be nice if Mayor Villaraigosa would set a better role model for young Latino men in the Los Angeles area, who look up to him as their Mayor.

California Supreme Court Finally Gets It Right (Almost) About Same-Sex Marriage and Prop 8: Gay Marriage No Longer Legal

The California Supreme Court finally got it almost right on Tuesday, May 26. Same-sex (aka gay) marriage is now illegal in the State of California.

Why shouldn't it be? California voters voted twice on this issue and made it clear that they didn't want same-sex marriage to be legal in California, but the liberal court system did not want to believe this truth. So it is good news that the California Supreme Court finally gets it.

The other side of the issue, though, is that the 18,000 same-sex couples who were already married prior to November 0f 2008, when the California Supreme Court was ignoring the wishes of California voters, will remain married! This seems odd, because how can same-sex marriage be legal for some gay couples, and illegal for the rest?

The California Supreme Court should have declared all same-sex marriages performed in November of 2008 to be illegal also, since the very legality of a California Supreme Court judge declaring that he has more authority than California voters is unethical, and maybe even illegal in itself.

An interesting sidebar to all of this is that prior to the Proposition 8 election, an ad was aired repeatedly by gay activists on Los Angeles television stations, declaring that gay couples have no rights in California, and that denying gay couples these rights was equal to denying rights to Jews in Nazi Germany's holocaust during WWII.

The fact of the matter is that even during the airing of those ads, full rights to same-sex couples were already in force, guaranteed by law in the state of California. The conservative rebuttal to Proposition 8 even mentioned the exact numbering of the law in my Official Voters' Guide.

So this was a downright lie on the part of gay activists, intent on deceiving the public at large. Fortunately, though, this deceptive tactic didn't work, because California voters still voted against gay marriage.

In this morning's Los Angeles Times   (May 27) article, the truth has finally come out about this advertising deception:

"'Proposition 8 merely 'carves out a narrow and limited exception' to the state constitutional protection gays and lesbians now receive, Chief Justice Ronald M. George wrote for the majority.'"

"The court majority said same-sex couples would continue to have the right to choose life partners and enter into 'committed, officially recognized and protected family relationships' that enjoy all the benefits of marriage under the state's domestic partnership law."

"'Like opposite-sex couples, same-sex couples enjoy this protection not as a matter of legislative grace, but of constitutional right,' George wrote."

"UC Berkeley constitutional law professor Goodwin Liu said the ruling shows "the court continues to be very deferential to the processes of direct democracy in California."

In spite of the above quotes regarding the legal rights of same-sex couples in California, an Associate Justice disagrees:

"In a separate, concurring opinion, Associate Justice Kathryn Mickle Werdegar noted some rights married couples have that domestic partners do not, and suggested that the state now has the duty 'to eliminate the remaining important differences.'"

What are those "important differences?" The Los Angeles Times article doesn't mention them.

The above quotations are from the Los Angeles Times article, California high court upholds Prop. 8. By Maura Dolan May 27, 2009 - Click this link to read the entire article.

Will The Benjamin Franklin Obsessed Thomas Birch Please Stand Up?

Thomas Birch, copier of newly discovered Benjamin Franklin letters (said discovery is thanks to Professor Alan Houston, a political science professor at UC San Diego) is the English historian. There is another famous Thomas Birch, an artist, who is not the Thomas Birch that copied the Benjamin Franklin letters.

Thanks to Wikipedia for the following information about Thomas Birch, and his connection to Benjamin Franklin.

Copies of Franklin letters

"Recently discovered by American researcher Alan Houston at the British Library is a file entitled Copies of [Benjamin Franklin's] Letters relating to the March of General Braddock. Birch was said to have obsessively copied any documents of historical importance he could get his hands on. He was a friend of Franklin, and they were both members of the Royal Society. In his autobiography, Franklin refers to his "Quire Book", which has never been found, but which contained letters and papers concerning his efforts to support the British Government at that pre-revolutionary time."

Author's Comment: Since Thomas Birch was obsessive about copying important historical documents, there can be no doubt that the newly discovered Benjamin letters are a true find. Furthermore, who says all obsessions are bad? I'm personally glad that Thomas Birch was obsessive about something important for the rest of humanity to appreciate generations later. For more information about the Benjamin Franklin letters, see the Los Angeles Times article.

Romney On Detroit: ""I am not open to a bailout, but I am open to a work-out."

Mitt Romney, former Governor of Massachusetts, a Mormon (Latter-Day Saint), and one of the top 2008 Republican presidential candidates, is currently "widely considered to be a 2012 presidential contender," according to a November 24 ABC News article. Romney also said what some considered to be shocking remarks about the bailout of the auto industry in Detroit, Michigan.

"Romney is strongly opposed to the auto industry's request for $25 billion in low-interest loans. He is calling for management shakeups inside the companies as they engage in extensive economic restructuring, and is recommending bankruptcy or similar legal arrangements for America's auto giants."

"'Just sending a check and hoping for the best is not the right choice,'" Romney told ABC News.com Friday, in between campaign stops in Georgia, where he was campaigning for Sen. Saxby Chambliss' re-election.

"'Simply patting the sick patient on the back and saying don't worry, everything will be fine -- that is not the right course for the auto industry,'" Romney said.

"In January, he delivered a speech to the Detroit Economic Club that included this line: "'I am not open to a bailout, but I am open to a work-out.'"
'That's what I said then; that's what I'm saying now,'" Romney said Friday.
