Nobody's going to be satisfied with anything until the well's capped," Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, a Republican, said on Fox News.1 Republicans slam Obama's oil spill Oval Office address; Sarah Palin calls President a 'dreamer'
Instead of capping the well," he argued, "the President talked about putting a new cap-and-trade tax on the American people that's going to run up the cost of energy. 1
Well, we haven't had the assurance that president — we haven't had the assurance by the president that that has been his top priority. Instead, what his top priority is, Bill, is cap and tax. It is using this crisis, not letting it go to waste, but to use this crisis to increase the cost of energy.Ex-governor of Alaska Sarah Palin, a leader who is very knowledgeable about oil problems, also told Bill O'Reilly what she did about oil when she was the governor of Alaska:
Now, as governor of Alaska, what I did in dealing with the oil companies, and I'll bet you, 75 percent of my time was being taken up by energy issues here in this state. I had to set up our Petroleum Systems Integrity Office so that we could be there on the front lines making sure what the oil companies were telling us was legit, when they were dealing with their corroded pipes that we found out and other lax maintenance issues.Read the entire Bill O'Reilly interview with Sarah Palin.
BP provisionally agreed the biggest compensation payment in corporate history, setting up a fund worth at least £13.5 billion to cover the damage caused by its leaking oil pipe in the Gulf of Mexico.1 Twitter and Facebook users 'not impressed' by President Obama's BP oil spill speech
But the US president last night made it clear that BP's payments could be just the start, warning that the company could still face lawsuits from individuals and American states. 1
1 Helen Thomas: Bizarre end to a long careerThomas, 89, has been a fixture at the White House press conferences for half a century, for most of that time as a United Press International correspondent, but as an opinion columnist for Hearst since 2000. In that latter role, she used her ability to question the president as an opportunity to push her own views. While White House officials should expect tough questions from reporters, Thomas didn’t exactly challenge George W. Bush and his press aides; rather, she berated them — about war, Middle Eastern politics, and other subjects. 1
In a written statement issued Friday, Thomas apologized, saying, “I deeply regret my comments I made last week regarding the Israelis and the Palestinians.”
She said the comments “do not reflect” her “heart-felt belief that peace will come to the Middle East only when all parties recognize the need for mutual respect and tolerance.”
“May that day come soon,” she added. 2Since Helen Thomas is now officially retired, maybe she should consider retiring to Poland. I hear there's a house for rent right next door to Auschwitz.
The sale of the 16-ounce glasses was part of the promotional campaign for the movie "Shrek Forever After," which was produced by DreamWorks Animation and released by Viacom Inc's Paramount Pictures.1 McDonald's recalls 12 million Shrek drinking glasses
The glasses came in four designs with characters from the film: Shrek, Fiona, Puss in Boots and Donkey.
Shrek, the fourth movie in the series about the lovable green ogre's adventures in his fairy tale land, opened May 21 and is currently the most popular movie in North America, having grossed almost $150 million through the end of May. 1
Tom Reed, vice president of human resources at Arc International’s plant in Millville, says the company received a copy of a McDonald’s memo on the recall of 12 million glasses but has not heard anything else.2 NJ factory that makes ‘Shrek’ drinking glasses says it’s looking into recall over cadmium
Reed would not say where the paint was made or whether it’s used in Arc’s other products. Arc is based in France and owns the Pyrex brand of cookware in Europe. 2
In an ' Email from Al and Tipper Gore,' the couple said: 'We are announcing today that after a great deal of thought and discussion, we have decided to separate'.I am not an Al Gore fan. I think Al Gore contributes more to global warming than he prevents. I don't think Al Gore should have won the Nobel Peace Prize. But Tipper Gore seems to me to be a decent person, and a good wife.
'This is very much a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration. We ask for respect for our privacy and that of our family, and we do not intend to comment further.'
The e-mail was obtained by POLITICO and confirmed by Kalee Kreider of the office of Al and Tipper Gore. Kreider said there would be no further comment.
Overall, 42% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the president's performance. That is the lowest level of approval yet measured for this president. Fifty-six percent (56%) now disapprove of his performance. 11 Daily Presidential Tracking Poll

The United States and China reported no major breakthroughs Friday after only their second round of talks about human rights since 2002.
[Assistant Secretary of State Michael Posner] said in addition to talks on freedom of religion and expression, labor rights and rule of law, officials also discussed Chinese complaints about problems with U.S. human rights [what right do the Chinese have to complain about U.S. human rights? This is nothing less than insanity.], which have included crime, poverty, homelessness and racial discrimination.
He [Posner] said U.S. officials did not whitewash the American record [of course not -- Obama is compelled to open his mouth and spout forth his false ideas about America every chance he gets] and in fact raised on its own a new immigration law in Arizona that requires police to ask about a person's immigration status if there is suspicion the person is in the country illegally.I want to mention here that the topic about Arizona's new Immigration Law was not brought up by the Chinese, but by Obama and his politically correct entourage. I also would like to know what Obama's response was to the Chinese about their various complaints against America.
The National Day of Prayer service was started by George W. Bush. It was an openly evangelical Christian affair, and was highly inappropriate for an official White House function. It was offensive to all non Christians. Christians must learn that not everyone subscribes to their silly superstition. Their superstition has no business being privileged or even recognized by the federal government.
